The Summer Challenge - 4 Seasons in a Day!

The Summer Challenge saw 7 hardy NGC golfers take on the beautiful but challenging course at L'Empereur. Conditions were typically Belgian with the group welcomed by warm sunshine followed by sleet, hale, rain and wind. In the words of one participant it was more like special forces selection with 9 holes of Afghanistan style climate, traditional L’Empereur mountain climbing, followed by Welsh/Irish rain,  Norwegian hail stones then Belgium’s pre-Waterloo battle winning summer rain.

Late May at L'Empereur!

It was going to require some determined play to overcome these conditions. The leading player this year Joe was keen to maintain his commanding lead but with a number of debutants and the President in the wings - anything could happen!

Robbie hits a great approach admired by Joe - I think!

And so it proved with the President turning all his potential into a fine performance winning the day and outdriving the field to claim the points and the prizes. Don McVey making his debut made an impressive start claiming a creditable second place with Joe continuing to consolidate his leave taking the closest to the pin. This small band of NGC brothers deserve great credit for persevering through awful conditions although there is a potential return to this fine course in the Autumn thanks to an idea from Robbie Boyd. More to follow,

The President receives his Longest Drive Prize after celebrating his overall win.

Darryl congratulates Joe on his CTTP.

A tough competition with Arvid gathering a 4 point haul and moving into second place overall; however, Joe extends his lead to 9 points. It is still mathematically possible that he can be caught but he has one hand on the NATO Cup.

Our next event is the NGC Champs at La Tournette. This will be followed by the end of season Closing Cup at Enghien on 11 July. Please sign up on the website.
