2013 Christmas Cracker

After the disappointment of having to cancel the Closing Cup in November due to very wet conditions at Falnuée - and other courses as it turns out - we were delighted that the weather held for the Annual Christmas Cracker traditionally held at Rigenée.  Although there were a few drops of rain during the round, for the most part conditions were good and the course was in great shape for this time of year.

It was a small but enthusiastic group that stormed around the course, and we were pleased to welcome new member Patrick Turner, who was persistent in finding his way to join the group!  The course and weather conditions threw out some challenges in the scoring department!  A remedial master class in "how to reach the green on a Par 3" will be held for the Ladies' Section in 2014... as yet again (fifth time in 2013) none of the ladies managed to find the green on the 18th for the Nearest the Pin competition, although Gaby was only centimetres short. Both Janis and Sybil found the greenside bunkers.

As we have done in so many years past, the group again gathered at the Chalet de la Forêt for delicious and hearty omelettes washed down with a local beer, to exchange gifts and enjoy the prize-giving.

As the group was small, we only had one Category, and prizes were awarded to 5th Place.  With a superb score of 33 points, Dick Zandee is now the proud owner of the "Santa" and winner of the 2013 Christmas Cracker.  In second place, on 29 points, Alain Klein edged out Ron Dobson on countback.  Janis Dobson took fourth place with 28 points, and Sybil Beaton claimed the prize for 5th spot with 25 points.

As mentioned above, none of the ladies could claim the Nearest the Pin prize, however, all three ladies did find the fairway, with Sybil taking the prize for Longest Drive. Well done Sybil!

The men had more success in both competitions, and Dave Hogg proudly claimed the Longest Drive.  Finally, walking up to the 18th, Ron Dobson was yet again accurate in finding the green and won the prize for the Nearest the Pin.

Many thanks to Alain Klein for organizing this event, and for overseeing the prize-giving ceremony at the Restaurant!

Jolly Holiday wishes to everyone and we wish you all a very Happy New Year!
